Everyone gets frustrated having to pay charges to withdraw money from cash machines. However, this report from our financial inclusion programme shows how Black and minority ethnic people are financially excluded through being more likely to live in areas where they have to do this.

The findings of 'Who Pays to Access Cash?' are based on an analysis of all 64,000 bank machines across the UK, whether they are located in high street banks, petrol stations, grocery shops or pubs. Areas with a higher number of black and minority ethnic people tend to have more fee-charging cash machines and the cost of paying these charges can lead to additional banking costs of £120 a year.

This report was funded by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation.
