In the report, which was part of the Perspectives series, the authors argue the attempt to conflate riots with gangs and gang activity is a flawed endeavour with dangerous racial subtext.  They warn that poor policy making in this area is likely to have serious implications for already marginalised groups within our society. In shaping responses to the riots, it is crucial that power holders do not add fuel to the fire but seek to find lasting solutions to ensure that destructive riots do not scar our neighbourhoods again.
