Our response to the government’s Crime and Policing Bill, in which we raise our concerns about the introduction of Respect Orders and a series of clauses that we do not believe are appropriate or proportionate responses to the issues at hand.

In this short briefing, we highlight the lack of evidence supporting these measures and stress the need to consider them within the wider context of rapidly diminishing civil rights in the UK and the ongoing presence of institutional racism, including within the police. We believe these clauses will disproportionately negatively impact people of colour, and we recommend either their removal or significant amendment.
