The Senior Researcher role at Runnymede Trust, the UK’s leading independent think tank on race and ethnicity, is a key role with the potential to help shape the UK’s research and policy narratives on race and inequalities with one of the country’s leading think tanks on race and social justice.
Responsibilities and main duties
Strategic Responsibilities
- Support the Head of Research in developing the strategic direction of Runnymede’s research portfolio.
- Work closely with teams in partner organisations to design hard-hitting research that provides a rich understanding of race and inequalities in the UK, with intersectional realities and dynamics reflected in the findings.
- Represent Runnymede and provide research support to calls for evidence or to Parliamentary committees and hearings – sometimes at short notice when deadlines are urgent and require a timely intervention or response.
Research Management and Delivery
- Use a mixture of qualitative and quantitative methods to deliver research aims and produce reports analysing and interpreting patterns and trends that examine the links between race and outcomes in selected thematic areas.
- Project manage research programmes and partnerships, ensuring milestones, budgets and reporting requirements are met, maintained and communicated to external partners where appropriate.
- Help develop a shared language and conceptual framework to ensure that our published reports are accessible and clearly understandable to all.
- Manage relationships with key stakeholders to gather findings for the research study and advise management on project deliverables.
- Develop and maintain regular communications with internal and external stakeholders to ensure the research is appropriately focused.
Impact and Policy Development Responsibilities
- Work with the Runnymede Trust and partner research teams to develop research that contributes to a more inclusive narrative on race, class and inequalities in the UK.
- Provide support and synergy to the policy team whilst also being able to progress medium to longer-term research priorities.
Management Responsibilities
- Line management responsibilities for one or two junior researchers.
- Resolve ongoing challenges that may affect the achievement of research objectives and deadlines, and escalate challenges to resolve ongoing issues as appropriate.
Communications and Impact Reporting Responsibilities
- Draft website, event and commentary material for projects undertaken and any other collateral content for digital assets.
- Take responsibility for relevant project reporting and monitoring for funders and end-of-project of data and documentation.
- Promote equality and diversity values acting as a role model and fostering an inclusive working culture.
