What does integration mean? This conference will bring together policymakers and academics to discuss the framing of integration - for ethnic minorities and the majority.
In the 1970s, political leader Roy Jenkins described it was a two-way process of coming together and sharing experiences. These days some people prefer the term 'assimilation' where the newly-arrived immigrant must ditch their culture. Today these arguments still rage in different ways.
This conference will build on the findings of the Runnymede project 'Unity out of diversity? Perspectives on the adaptations of immigrants in Britain,’ bringing together contributors from across academia, policy, and civil society to inform the discussion.
The event is free but by registration only and spaces are limited on a first come- first served basis. Please register for Redefining Integration here.
