Is the Poverty Premium a fact of life or can it be eradicated?

16 September 2015

The Poverty Premium means the poorest in our society are paying more for essential goods and services such as food, housing, utilities and big value essential items. Changes to the welfare system such as the benefit cap and under occupancy charge combined with the Premium means low incomes are being stretched even further.

Dr Omar Khan will join a panel chaired by Jon Snow in the second of Toynbee Hall's contemporary smoking room debates which will include a broad spectrum of Poverty Premium experts and an audience of around 100 people, including representatives from charities, think tanks, front line delivery agencies and educational establishments. All of whom will explore, discuss and answer the question: Is the Poverty Premium a fact of life or can it be eradicated?
