End Racism This Generation? ‘Yes we Can!’23 September 2013
Today, to coincide with the launch of Runnymede’s End Racism This Generation campaign the result of a new survey will be released.
The survey, commissioned by Runnymede from independent research organisation, Ethnic Focus , showed that despite continuing racial inequality, people are positive about eliminating racism this generation, with four out of five respondents (79%) believing it would take between 20-50 years.
Rob Berkeley, Director of Runnymede said “The key to succeeding will be informing people about the continued existence of racism and the damage it causes to all of us, and sharing knowledge of what works in combating it. If we work together we can build a society where everybody has the chance to fulfill their potential and contribute to a harmonious multi-ethnic Britain. Everybody can make a difference regardless of the resources at their disposal.’
This is the idea behind End Racism This Generation – by us all publicly pledging the actions, we will take to eliminate racism. And by reporting on the result of those actions, we will be able to see what’s possible to achieve and what works.
We’re putting together a series of events to get the conversation started, so take a look to see what’s happening in your area, and find out what other End Racism supporters have pledged, as individuals and organisations. We hope their pledges will help you find inspiration for what you will do to End Racism This Generation!
Total sample size was 750 adults. The demographic of the group are as follows: Indian 200, Pakistani 150, Black Caribbean 75, Black African 75, Eastern European 100, White British 150. The survey was carried out in person. Fieldwork was undertaken between July-August 2013
