This perspectives paper looks at the current proposed reforms to the history element of the national curriculum and suggests the curriculum should include reference to the very different and diverse histories of individuals who have migrated to the UK from all over the world, as these all contribute to our understanding of British history.

The report argues that Michael Gove’s intention to refocus the history curriculum on content and narrative, with an emphasis on “Kings, Queens and Wars”, risks excluding the stories of the ordinary people of Britain, including ethnic minorities and women.
