Supporting BME Parents

In January 2006 Runnymede began a research project to assist parents, particularly those from Black and Minority Ethnic (BME), Refugee, Asylum-seeking and Traveller communities to support their children's education more confidently and effectively. The work involved conducting a large online survey of parents and teachers and consultation with local authority and school based projects specifically targeting the support of BME, Refugee and Traveller parents.

This project is due to report shortly and its findings will be produced in the form of a set of key stage relevant guides under the broader title Tell Me What I Need to Know. A sample copy of one of the key stage booklets was launched at the national Promoting Community Cohesion through Schools Conference in November 2007. It is anticipated that the set of guides will be launched at an event to take place later this year.
