2010 Ethnic Minority British Election Survey Workshop

27 October 2011

Runnymede is co-organising an important workshop reporting the findings of the 2010 Ethnic Minority British Election Survey. The survey, funded by the Economic and Social Research Council, is the most is the most comprehensive study ever undertaken in Britain of the political concerns, orientations, voting patterns and integration of ethnic minorities in the political process.

The workshop, organised in partnership with the Institute for Social Change, Manchester University and TNS-BMRB, will address the following questions:

  • Are some minorities less likely to register or turn out to vote?
  • What are the special political concerns of minorities?
  • Do minorities continue to show in 2010 the overwhelming support for Labour that they used to show in the past?
  • Are there now growing divisions - for example between South Asians and Black voters, or between Muslim and non-Muslim?
  • How satisfied are minority voters with their representation?
  • How satisfied are minorities with the way British democracy works?
  • Are there signs of alienation and disaffection from Britain on the part of young Muslims or young Blacks?

The workshop is taking place at the TNS-BMRB office, 6 More London Place, London SE1 2QY.
