UN Committee urges Government to put race equality back on the agenda
12 September 2011
The United Nations Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (CERD) has issued its recommendations on actions the UK government should take to promote race equality in the UK.
The Committee’s examination of the UK government’s policies on tackling racism and ethnic inequalities took place last month, and a group of organisations called UK NGOs Against Racism, convened by Runnymede, were there in Geneva to make sure the concerns of UK race equality organisations were heard.
We are very pleased to announce that many of the UN’s recommendations reflect the concerns we highlighted in the report we submitted in July, and during our presentations and lobbying of Committee members in Geneva last month. Please click here to read the UN's recommendations. Please visit the CERD section of our website to find out more about CERD and to download our report to the UN committee and Runnymede's press release in response to the UN's recommendations.
Runnymede will be hosting a webinar to feedback on our involvement in this process on September 29th. The online seminar will involve a Q and A with representatives from Government, the Equality and Human Rights Commission and NGOs.
