How do ethnic minority students fare at university?

12 January 2011

Runnymede has published a new report on widening the participation of black and minority ethnic (BME) groups in the UK’s universities.

Widening Participation and Race Equality, which features essays from higher education and race equality experts, highlights that while there are large numbers of BME students at university, there is still under-representation in the country’s most prestigious institutions.

In addition, the report also shows that BME students are less likely to be awarded a high ranking degree than their white counterparts.

The report follows Runnymede’s recent work with David Lammy MP on a Freedom of Information request, which found that Oxford University only admitted one Black British Caribbean student in 2009.
