Our public services need an overhaul, say experts
20 September 2010
Our public services in their current state are unsustainable, suggests a report put together by some of the best public policy minds in Britain.
The Commission on 2020 Public Services launched From social security to social productivity: a vision for 2020 Public Services on 14 September 2010. The report calls for a total reconfiguration of public services around the needs and capabilities of citizens, based on the principle of social productivity.
The commission, which is comprised of private and public sector executives, academics, social researchers and politicians, calls for a new relationship between citizens and the state, including greater social responsibility and more intelligent collaboration between the public and their services.
The launch event featured prominent leaders from the field, including RSA chief executive Matthew Taylor and Runnymede director Dr Rob Berkeley, who took part in a panel discussion that highlighted the report's findings and discussed its main principles.
The report is now available to download on the 2020 Public Services Trust website , and a video of the event can be seen on the RSA website.
