Learning about religion and slavery

For the Real Histories Directory's December 'Topic of the Month' Rabbi Lee Wax explores the relationship between religion and slavery. She looks at the historical traditions in different faiths, the use of religious texts to both justify and condemn slavery and the involvement of religious people in the transatlantic trade. Finally, she examines contemporary global forms of slavery, from bonded labour to human trafficking - and proposes a 7-point action list for becoming an modern-day abolitionist. December's 'Topic' is the last in the series commemorating the bicentenary of the Abolition of the Slave Trade Act.

Every month the Real Hisotries Directory highlights one particular topic that is of interest to teachers, parents or students and gicves guidance on how the Directory can suggest resources to support classroom teaching, parental involvement or further study in that particular area.
