Antisemitism EDM and asylum consultation
01 March 2010
Welcome to the first post of Runnymede’s Westminster Monitor blog. There are two items of interest from parliament and Whitehall today – an EDM from Labour MP Andrew Dismore on antisemitism on Facebook, and a consultation from the Home Office on asylum.
Andrew Dismore tabled an Early Day Motion (EDM) at the start of February congratulating Jewish News on its investigation into allegations surrounding the use of Facebook to promote antisemitism. The EDM has been building momentum, and now has 41 signatures. Read the full EDM, which is sure to build support over the coming weeks.
Also of interest, the Home Office has launched a consultation on whether to provide monthly statistics on asylum applications in addition to its quarterly summary. Have a look at the full consultation; the deadline for submissions is 30 April 2010.
