Amitav Ghosh Talk Available to Download
07 December 2009
A podcast featuring award-winning Indian novelist Amitav Ghosh delivering this year's Runnymede Jim Rose Lecture is now available to download from the LSE website.
The celebrated author is speaking to an audience of more than 300 on the theme of Belonging, Community and Diaspora.
In the question and answer session following the lecture, Ghosh shares anecdotes of his personal experience of racism in the UK as a student at Oxford University in the early 1980s.
The writer, whose most recent novel Sea of Poppies was shortlisted for the 2008 Man Booker Prize, then faces questions from the audience on everything from his books to Sharia Law.
The event was held by Runnymede, in conjunction with the Sociology Department of the LSE, in honour of our co-founder Jim Rose, whose devotion to racial justice and civil rights remained unbroken throughout his lifetime.
