Conference on Anti-racism, Refugees and Faith Organisations
Examining the role that religious organisations take in supporting refugees and battling racism is the focus of an upcoming conference, Migration, Racism and Religion, co-organised by Runnymede.
Speaking at the event, which is to be held at the University of East London on Thursday, 4 February, 2010, will be Runnymede director Rob Berkeley, Southall Black Sisters' Pragna Patel and a host of academics and activists.
For a full list of speakers, see our events listing.
Questions examined on the day will include:
- Who addresses refugee/migrant interests at the local and national levels?
- How do faith initiatives relate to broader issues of racism in UK society?
- What is the place of ideas about refuge and sanctuary within religious currents today?
- To what extent have faith organisations reinvigorated principles eroded by the secular state?
- What are the outcomes for community relations, identities and the politics of belonging?
Admission is free, but places are limited. To add your name on the list, email Dr Helen Taylor at h.m.taylor@uel.ac.uk
